What is Network Management and NMS? What are its Functional Area?
Network Management
Network management is the process of using a network management system to administer, manage, and operate a data network. In today's Network Management system, Software and hardware are used to constantly collect and analyze data and to push changes of configuration for performance, reliability, and security improvement.Functional Area of Network Management
- Network Administration: Network administration includes keeping track of network resources such as switches, routers, and servers. It also includes software updates and performance monitoring.
- Network Operation: The goal of network operation is to ensure that the network works properly. Monitoring network activity and proactively identifying and resolving issues are examples of network operation tasks.
- Network Maintenance: Network maintenance implies upgrading and repairing network resources. It also includes proactive and remediation activities carried out in collaboration with network administrators, such as the replacement of network equipment such as routers and switches.
- Network Provisioning: Network provisioning is the process of configuring network resources to support a specific service, such as voice functions or accommodating additional users.
Network Management System(NMS)
An NMS (Network Management System) is a program or set of programs that allows network engineers to manage individual components of a network inside a larger framework for network management and perform a range of critical duties. A network device NMS both wired and wireless detects, configures, monitors, upgrades, and troubleshoots in a corporate network. A system control app shows the performance data gathered from each network component, which allows network engineers to make modifications as necessary.
